How to install my Montage themes and other goodies ! | Updated September 20, 2010 | |
This section will explain how to install the different files downloadable from this site. Warning: Before downloading, please consider making a backup of directories that will be modified (and all their subdirectories) which are the following: In Vista and Seven C:\Users\Public\Documents\Pinnacle\Content Under XP C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Pinnacle\Content Note: Windows automatically translates Users in its installation language. (ie. In French, it will be Utilisateurs ) 2 installation formats are proposed to combine simplicity and safety. - the first is the simplest. It is available accross the different sections through the yellow button: It consists in self executable installation .exe files, which detect the path to the appropriate directories depending on your version of Windows (the paths are different in XP and Vista ...), as well as the installation disk, in case you installed Pinnacle Studio somewhere else than on your C: hard disk. This mode is recommended unless you feel able to navigate through your PC's directories tree ...
- the second is compressed files. ZIP. It is available accross the different pages via the green button: For proper installation, you must go by yourself into the appropriate directories to unpack these files as described below. This mode is reserved for advanced users who wish to avoid any risk to integrity of their PCs . For your information, all my .ZIP files were created with the sourceforge.net tool 7-Zip available for free and that I warmly recommend.

Installing from auto-install .exe files |
| |
- First, download the file by clicking the button . If you use Internet Explorer it will ask you to choose between downloading the file or run it. The simplest in this case is to select "Run".
| | - If you use Firefox, the file will be transferred to the download directory that you had configured in the software (it is configurable in Firefox using the menu "Tools> Options> General") .
| | - Once the file downloaded, open Windows Explorer and navigate to the directory where your file was stored. Run it using double click.
- Windows Vista and Seven will ask you whether or not to allow the execution of this program whose editor (myself!) Is unknown. Select "Allow installation". If you do not trust in the safety of my files, then use the installation procedure for .ZIP files described below .
- The Setup Wizard presents you the file that will be installed
| | - Select "Next"
- You must then accept the terms of the license recalled in the image below
| | - Finally, a new screen will indicate in which directory the installation will be done. This directory does not matter, no files will be installed there. Just choose "Next"
| | - The installation is now complete, we just have to select "Exit" to exit the installation program.

Installation from .ZIP compressed files |
| |
These files contain only montage themes, or motion titles source code (text files) and various associated medias (. PNG . JPG,. MPG). It will decompress them in the appropriate directories. I will now describe these various directories used for montage themes and other goodies, and various files used. |
| |
Description of content directory of Pinnacle Studio 12 and 14 | In what follows, C: designate the disk on which you installed Pinnacle Studio. If you have installed on another disk, you must replace C: with the appropriate letter.
Pinnacle studio store many of its non-executable files in the following directory:
Vista and Seven C:\Users\Public\Documents\Pinnacle\Content Under XP C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Pinnacle\Content
Note: Windows automatically translate Users in the installation language. (In French, it will Utilisateur ) In what follows, I would use the paths for Vista, if you use XP, just replace the beginning of path as mentioned above. there you will find various sub directories used as we will detail below. It should be noted that this directory is used both by Studio 12 by Studio 14. - Background 16x9: This directory contains various files provided by Pinnacle for wallpapers menus and titles. I reuse some of these files in my montage themes, and I propose to add a few others. So it's in C:\Users\Public\Documents\Pinnacle\Content (Vista & Seven) that you should decompress the file directory Background 16x9.zip which contains some additional backgrounds.
- IMG-Templates: contains the montage themes subdirectories. Each serie of themes is itself stored in a subdirectory. The name of the subdirectory is the one that will appear in the montage themes menu in Studio. So it's in C:\Users\Public\Documents\Pinnacle\Content\IMG-Templates (Seven & Vista) that you should decompress the different files 20cents xxx.zip or E-N-C xxx.zip containing montage themes series !
16x9 - Motion Backgrounds: This directory contains the ... motion backgrounds. Again, Pinnacle delivers a few. Here I propose different motion backgrounds used in my montage themes. So it's in C:\Users\Public\Documents\Pinnacle\Content (Vista & Seven) that you should decompress the file directory Motion Background 16x9.zip which contains these motion backgrounds.
- MotionTitles: This directory also contains several subdirectories. sub-directory itself contains three Motions subdirectories, one for input motions C:\Users\Public\Documents\Pinnacle\Content\MotionTitles/-Motions/Enter , a second one for emphases C:\Users\Public\Documents\Pinnacle\Content\MotionTitles/-Motions/Emphasis , and finally, a last one for Exit C:\Users\Public\Documents\Pinnacle\Content\MotionTitles/-Motions/Exit . Titles motion must be unpacked in the directory C:\Users\Public\Documents\Pinnacle\Content\MotionTitles
- Titles and Titles 16x9 directories are titles directories (classic, not motion !), respectively in 4/3 and 16x9 formats.
- Textures contains .tga image files used by the classic titles in Titles and Titles16x9 directories. titles VideoSpin file containing the files included in the 3 directories Titles, Titles 16x9 and Textures should be unpacked directly into the directory C:\Users\Public\Documents\Pinnacle\Content
| - Download the file by clicking the (use the Tools> Options> General) . If you use the .Zip files istallation mode, I recommend to check the option "always ask before downloading files" in this menu . In such case choose the file destination directory based on its type and the explanations above.
- Once the file downloaded , open Windows Explorer and go to the directory where the file was loaded.
- Point the mouse on the file and right click mouse to open the shortcut menu, and select " extract all ..."
| | - then you must select the destination directory files. As mentioned in the previous paragraph, it is the parent directory of the directory that will be installed, either /Content for titles and background, /Content/IMG-Templates for montage themes, etc ...
| | When multiple directories should be created, the decompression operation may try to re create existing parent directory. It will then be asked to select the option for directories merger, which will have the effect of adding the new sub directories but keeping all the existing ones. Check also the option in the bottom of the window to repeat the operation each new conflict. | | If there is an update of a previous installation, some files to install already exist. Choose to upgrade them with the new version. As before, check the option in the bottom of the window to repeat this behavior for each of the following conflicts.
| | Enjoy, your manual installation is finished ! | |
